Function / Content

This series consists of a copy of a map drawn in 1910 by Thomas John Worgan, Mines Warden, showing where John Stewart, a mining prospector, was attacked and where his body was discovered, and the location of his grave. Additional amendments made by Worgan on 13 February 1911 show the route of the consequent search for the Aborignal men alleged to have attacked Stewart, the locations of graves for two of the alleged attackers, and the spot where a third man was captured. The map was signed by Thomas Worgan in 1932 when he was Director of Mines. The original map was copied in 1960. These incidents and a reference to this map were recorded in the surveyor's diary kept by Thomas Worgan (see NTRS 2182 and NTRS 2183). This map was donated by Fleur Worgan Johnson, granddaughter of Thomas John Worgan.
